Time to Try Something New?
I just wanted to say a quick hello. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Jessica, a fitness coach here at Hoar Cross Hall.
On 15th December, I am taking part in a white-collar boxing fight at the Burton Market Place, all in aid of Cancer Research UK. – I have a mixture of emotions running through me but can’t wait. I’ve been training hard and wanted to share with you all a bit of an insight into how I have adapted my schedules, gym sessions and eating in preparation.
I have dedicated the last 12 weeks to learning a whole new sport- which certainly is not for the faint hearted! Taking a punch to the face has been a daily task that I have not looked forward to!
I’ve adapted my own training regime from pure weight training and very little cardio, to a much more endurance and cardio based plan so that I am physically ready. I’ve done this through circuit and interval training alongside learning the footwork, correct technique and combinations of boxing itself, and learning contact sparring. Boxing really is a test of endurance and stamina, probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done. My fight will consist of 3 x 2-minute rounds, which doesn’t sound much, but the intensity is immense.
My weekly training consists of running, skipping, shadowboxing, pad-work and sparring. I do these 6 times a week over a mixture of group planned sessions, open gym sessions and also through PT sessions. The PT sessions with an experienced boxing coach have proved invaluable to me as they are tailored to my exact needs. My training levels have already started to increase and will continue to do so as the time gets closer to ensure my fitness is the best it can be.
I have also had to adapt my nutrition to match my heightened training to ensure the best recovery.
Ultra-events offer this white-collar boxing opportunity which includes 8 weeks of free training with professional coaches. All monies raised at this glamorous black-tie event go to Cancer Research UK. I am aiming to do more of this type of event next year as I really enjoy the difficult training. Who knows where the future could take me with it.
If you would like to know more about how I have trained or about this event, please do pop into the gym as I would love to share this with you – maybe you would like to get involved next year? The event is for all ages and no experience is needed!
I would really love your support. Tickets are available from £25 (or £35 after the 8th Dec). Anyone wanting to donate to this very worthy cause can do so via my just giving link below, or there’s a sponsorship form in the gym. www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jessboxchallenge
Thank you so much, Jessica x
