Goal setting tips to make 2020 the best year ever
If you want to improve your health for 2020 it is important to have a specific and clear goal, which is written down, otherwise it is just a wish says Registered Associate Nutritionist Melissa Kuman.
Melissa shares her advice on how to make your goals a reality.
There are 10 areas of your life -mental health, physical health, spirituality, intellectual life, relationships, parental life, friendships, jobs, hobbies, and finance. Rate yourself out of 10 on each of these areas to see where you should focus first. Improvements in one area will have influence on other areas. Decide on what you want to achieve and the benefits of this goal. Write it down with a date attached! Make a list of reasons why you are doing it to form an emotional attachment to it by writing list of motivations like I want to be slim exercise makes me happy. Have list of reasons at hand to keep you on long -term goal.
Describe where out of 10 you are in achieving this goal and what needs to happen if you were to be 1 step closer.
Top tip, most of us have mental blocks and false assumptions about ourselves, which act as a barrier like ‘I am ugly’. By removing these barriers, you can achieve anything.
Make sure the short-term goal is SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time bound), achievable and motivating for you and is something you can achieve in 3 weeks otherwise it is too overwhelming. Motivation is key here! Top tip instead of letting past failures derail us, like a fail attempt at dieting, learn from them, see them as useful advice.
Affirmations can help you achieve goals. An affirmation is a statement of your outcome that assumes that it is possible and achievable and keeps your mind focused on it. Phrase them as if they are happening now if they are to do with self-development eg ‘I am becoming more and more relaxed. I am feeling better and better about myself’. It is important to also write down your affirmations.
Have good group of friends around you to support you and give advice. Think about hiring a tutor like a life coach and nutritionist like me to get you through your goals.
